Emoticon Guide

meebo has many smileys/emoticons that are available to its users. Smileys/emoticons are used in text to give context to the reader. It bridges the gap between text and face to face conversations by giving the reader some idea of how it was said by showing a face. For example: “You are an idiot” This implies the writer thinks the reader is an idiot. There is no indication whether or not the writer is joking, jeering or otherwise. “You are an idiot X-D” This implies that the reader is still an idiot but gives far more information to its meaning. With the emoticon being used we can assume that the reader is still an idiot in the opinion of the writer but the writer finds this fact amusing or is simply substituting idiot for 'silly'. These emoticons are designed to work for meebo. If the other user isn't using meebo and doesn't have an emoticon assigned to the shortcut, they will see just the text. Otherwise, they'll see the emoticon images that their IM network associates with that text. For example, ”:D” and ”:)” will appear as images on Yahoo whereas the pirate, “P)”, will appear as text. To send emoticons to your non-meebo-using contacts, consult these lists of emoticons available in the default clients: AOL Instant Messenger - Yahoo! Messenger - MSN Messenger - Google Talk
Except where noted, all emoticons created by David Vignoni
