Welcome! Wikis are websites that everyone can build together. It's easy!

How to Design Tracks

Using your imagination is very important when creating tracks. However, when you build your first course, you will want to keep it simple. To start off, let's create a half pipe to learn the basics of the editor. But before we begin, you may want to read up on the controls for Free Rider, which would make creating a course less complicated.

Drawing a Half Pipe

First, you should clear the screen of all pieces except the starting straight piece. That piece is there so your rider doesn't keep falling, which would give you "You Lose" messages until you place another piece in his path.

You can reset the course by pressing the garbage can (How to Design Tracks - Free Rider) on the left toolbar.

You should see your bike on a perfectly flat line, so he doesn't fall off. Now, pan to the right so you can see the end of the line, where the red "x" is, like in the picture below. This will allow you to draw fewer lines and keep the code as small as possible.

Now you are going to want to click and drag the "x" until you see a blue line extending from the "x". Drag it as far to the right as possible, and release your mouse. You want to make sure the blue line is as straight as possible for this course, so you don't suddenly fall over. Keep doing this until your track is as long as you want it, and then you will start the curve.

To start the curve, create a medium sized line that does not slant up very far. If you do this, you will have a very long curve, where the risk of crashing is greatly reduced. You can experiment with different angles until you find an angle and line length you like. You now have half of your Half Pipe done!

Helpful Hint: The hardest part of creating any track is drawing the curves--it's hard to get a perfect curve, but there are some tools out there to help. If you use Curve Maker (used for LineRider, XP version), you can get a decent curve, but some consider it "cheating". To try this program, load it up and press F1 in the program to view the help file.

Now it's up to you to finish the rest, and happy creating! Give it a try below!

To play a Free Rider track:

  1. Highlight and copy the code of the track you want to play
  2. Click open (Free Rider Open Button) from the Free Rider menu and paste in the code
  3. Click open and play the track! (see here for game play instructions)
